Mousasi who was a top rated free agent before moving to Bellator MMA as a Free Agent lost the Championship belt to Rafael Lovato Jr who has since retired due to medical reasons. Defeating Lyoto Machida at Bellator 228, Mousasi again asserted himself as the top contender for the vacant belt.
Douglas Lima was the first Bellator MMA Welterweight champion after winning the tournament, and has proven himself as the world’s top welterweight picking up wins over Rory Macdonald and Michael Page he has shown a tendency for violence.
