Throughout my career as a professional fighter, I’ve learned that success comes from discipline, sacrifice, and understanding the rules of the game. Whether I’m preparing for a world championship fight or making decisions about my financial future, I believe in taking responsibility for the things I can control.

That’s one of the reasons I believe in Bitcoin.

I started my Bitcoin investment journey in 2017. Since then, I’ve spent time learning about inflation, monetary policy, financial independence, and why so many people around the world are searching for alternatives to traditional money.

The more I learn, the more I understand the expression that has become popular throughout the Bitcoin community:

Bitcoin fixes broken money.

But what does that actually mean? And why should someone who has never purchased Bitcoin care?

What Does It Mean When People Say Money Is Broken?

Most people spend their lives working to earn money. They sacrifice time with their families, work long hours, and try to save enough to build a better future.

Unfortunately, the money they work so hard to earn doesn’t always maintain its purchasing power.

Think about how much groceries, housing, transportation, and everyday necessities cost today compared to ten or twenty years ago.

A dollar is still a dollar, but it doesn’t necessarily buy what it used to.

One reason is inflation.

Over time, rising prices reduce the purchasing power of money. While inflation has several causes, including changes in supply, demand, production costs, and monetary conditions, the long-term loss of purchasing power creates a serious challenge for people trying to save.

Imagine training every day for a championship fight, only to discover that the rules keep changing while you’re competing.

That’s how the traditional monetary system can feel to people who work hard, save responsibly, and still struggle to get ahead.

How Bitcoin Offers an Alternative to Traditional Money

Bitcoin was introduced in 2009 as a decentralized digital monetary system.

Unlike government-issued currencies, Bitcoin operates without a central bank controlling its issuance.

One of its most important characteristics is its predetermined supply schedule.

There will never be more than 21 million Bitcoin.

This limit is enforced by Bitcoin’s network rules, and changing those rules would require broad adoption of a different protocol by network participants.

For me, that scarcity is one of Bitcoin’s most interesting features.

In professional fighting, everyone understands that a world championship is valuable because it is difficult to achieve. You cannot simply create another legitimate world championship victory whenever you want.

Scarcity matters.

Bitcoin applies a similar principle to digital money.

Its supply cannot be expanded at the discretion of a single government or central bank.

That doesn’t guarantee Bitcoin will increase in value, but it creates a monetary system with a transparent issuance schedule that people can independently verify.

Bitcoin, Inflation, and Protecting Purchasing Power

One of the biggest reasons people become interested in Bitcoin is concern about inflation.

When the purchasing power of traditional currency decreases, savers often look for assets that may preserve wealth over longer periods.

Historically, people have used gold, real estate, businesses, and other investments for this purpose.

Bitcoin introduces another possibility: a digital asset with a limited supply that can be transferred across borders.

However, it’s important to understand that Bitcoin is not guaranteed protection against inflation.

Its price can experience significant volatility, and there have been periods when Bitcoin lost substantial value even while consumer prices were rising.

I believe Bitcoin’s long-term potential comes from its scarcity, decentralized design, and growing global adoption—not from a promise that its price will always increase.

As an athlete, I understand that short-term results don’t always tell the entire story.

One difficult training session doesn’t determine your career.

Similarly, I believe understanding Bitcoin requires looking beyond daily price movements and learning about the technology and economic principles behind it.

Why Financial Freedom Matters to Me as Cris Cyborg

I was born in Brazil and built my professional fighting career through years of dedication, traveling internationally, and competing around the world.

That experience has taught me how important financial independence can be.

As an athlete, your earning opportunities can change quickly. Injuries happen. Contracts end. Careers evolve.

That’s why I’ve always believed in thinking beyond the next fight.

Financial freedom means having more control over your future and the ability to make decisions without depending entirely on someone else’s approval.

Bitcoin interests me because it allows people to hold and transfer value without requiring permission from a traditional financial intermediary, provided they have the necessary access and technical knowledge.

With a properly secured self-custody wallet, individuals can control their own Bitcoin.

Of course, that independence also creates responsibility. Protecting private keys, avoiding scams, and understanding how transactions work are essential.

Bitcoin gives people an opportunity to take greater responsibility for their financial lives.

And responsibility is something every champion understands.

Bitcoin Doesn’t Care Who You Are

One of my favorite things about Bitcoin is that the network doesn’t care about your nationality, athletic accomplishments, or social status.

Whether you’re a professional fighter, a business owner, a student, or someone working two jobs to support your family, the same fundamental Bitcoin network rules apply.

You don’t need to be famous to participate.

You don’t need to be wealthy to begin learning.

And you don’t need to purchase an entire Bitcoin.

Each Bitcoin can be divided into 100 million smaller units called satoshis, or sats.

This makes it possible to purchase small fractions of Bitcoin rather than needing enough money to buy one full coin.

While access to exchanges, banking services, and the internet still varies by location, Bitcoin’s underlying network offers a form of open participation that I find powerful.

Why Bitcoin Education Is More Important Than Bitcoin Price Predictions

Since beginning my Bitcoin journey in 2017, I’ve seen excitement, fear, major price increases, and significant market declines.

One lesson I’ve learned is that understanding what you own is more important than following social media hype.

I encourage people interested in Bitcoin to study its fundamentals.

Learn why Bitcoin was created.

Understand how mining and transactions work.

Research the difference between holding Bitcoin on an exchange and controlling your own private keys.

And most importantly, understand the risks before investing.

I don’t believe someone should buy Bitcoin simply because a celebrity, athlete, or online personality tells them to.

Education should come first.

That’s also why I enjoy connecting with people who are passionate about Bitcoin and learning from individuals who have spent years studying the technology.

Bitcoin Fixes Broken Money by Changing the Rules

When people say Bitcoin fixes broken money, I don’t think they mean Bitcoin will instantly solve every economic problem.

Bitcoin cannot eliminate poverty, prevent every financial crisis, or guarantee that everyone who purchases it will become wealthy.

What Bitcoin does offer is an alternative monetary system built around transparent rules, a limited supply, and decentralized verification.

For people concerned about inflation, financial censorship, and long-term monetary stability, those characteristics are worth understanding.

In fighting, I’ve always believed that preparation, discipline, and consistency create opportunities for success.

I approach Bitcoin with that same mindset.

Study the fundamentals. Think long term. Understand the risks. Make your own decisions.
