Ahead of Cris Cyborg’s return to the Bellator MMA Cage this weekend the promotion has released one of her older fights from the film vault. Facing Leslie Smith for a second time at Bellator 259 the bout was a rematch of their UFC 198 matchup in Curitiba Brazil. Unlike the first matchup which played out inside of a stadium of 54,000 fans in Cyborg’s hometown of Curitiba Brazil the rematch took place during the COVID restrictions and had no crowd in attendance.
The first fight which was controversially stopped perhaps a bit premature featured Cyborg with a dominate 1st round finish, while the rematch at Bellator 259 went all 5 rounds with Champ Cris Cyborg scoring the KO finish with only 9 seconds left in the fight. With the victory Cyborg defended her Bellator MMA belt for a second time.
The only Grand Slam Champion in the sport after winning belts with Bellator MMA, UFC, Invicta FC, and Strikeforce–Cris Cyborg will be returning to the cage Oct. 7th in San Diego against #1 contender Cat Zingano who is undefeated in Bellator MMA and owns career wins over UFC Champions Miesha Tate and Amanda Nunes. With a victory over Zingano, Cyborg will capture her 16th World Championship victory during her career and incredible feat. Get tickets to watch BELLATOR 300 HERE.
