At the local level, he held the WBC-NABF welterweight title from 2017 to 2019 and the WBO Inter-Continental welterweight belt in 2018. Vergil Ortiz Jr. is a Mexican American professional fighter who has kept the WBO International welterweight title since 2021. As a beginner, he was a seven-time national champion and he was the winner at the 2013 Junior Olympics. He was named 2019 The Ring magazine Prospect of the Year. Vergil is going to be facing Michael McKinson is a British professional boxer. At the regional level, he held the WBO European welterweight title from 2019 to 2020. Mckinson is trained by his father Michael Ballingall, who also trains his younger brother Lucas Ballingall, a professional boxer in the lightweight division. Vergil is 23 years old and was born on March 25, 1988. He started boxing with his dad Vergil Ortiz Sr. when he was a child and now he is still with his dad training at the champion Robert Garcia’s gym. His dad Vergil Ortiz Sr has been his trainer since the beginning of his career and he started boxing at a very young age in Dallas Texas. Both Sr. and Jr. are going back to Texas to continue getting ready for the fight as Jr is going to be fighting for the belt and is probably going to be one of the biggest fights and challenges that he’s been through since the beginning of his career.

“First and foremost I am very sorry and disappointed to not be fighting this Saturday,” Ortiz wrote. “Camp was going great, I was doing good in sparring and training in general. But for the last 2 weeks, I didn’t feel like myself. I just felt like my body was deteriorating and I didn’t know why and it was frustrating. Being the fighter that I am I tried toughing it out, but when it’s your own body fighting against you there’s little you can do.

“Luckily my dad was able to tell I was right and took me to the doctor. We ran some tests and the doctor concluded that I had Rhabdomyolysis. I was hospitalized yesterday and had to stay overnight. It could’ve been a lot worse and I’m thankful that we caught it on time. I am very sorry if I left you guys down believe me if there was a hair of a chance of me fighting, I would be.”
