Cris Cyborg recently linked back up with the crew at Invicta FC as they have started a “where are they now” series highlighting many of the promotions great champions and premier level names in Women’s MMA. During the recent filming they showed Cris her fight against Charmaine Tweet from February of 2015. Cyborg was the main event of Invicta FC 11 a fight card which also featured future UFC champion Alexa Grasso and other WMMA standouts such as Aspen Ladd, Irene Aldana, and Deanna Bennett.
Charmaine Tweet had previously lost to Julia Budd by decision before building back-to-back wins to earn the shot at Cris Cyborg. Having faced Ronda Rousey previously, many fans were interested to see how the Canadian Muay Thai champion would do against the legend of Cris Cyborg. Cyborg at the time was 12-1 as a professional and considered the number 1 featherweight in the world.
With Dana White in the front row attending the fights, Cris Cyborg put on a spectacular display winning by first round KO at 46 seconds of the first round. Cyborg had faced Muay Thai legend Jorina Baars in her last fight losing a 5 round decision for the Lion Fight Muay Thai championships, and this was her first MMA fight since a 2013 victory over Marloes Coenen. Cyborg would go on to defend her Invicta FC Championship 3 times before eventually being pulled into the UFC promotion.
Following two superfights at 140 lbs Cris Cyborg finally became UFC Champion July 29th 20217 when she defeated former Invicta FC Champion Tonya Evinger via 3rd round TKO.
