It would appear that Bellator MMA is the #1 promotion in terms of retaining their top talent. While the UFC has witness stars like Cris Cyborg, Francis Ngannou, and Sergio Pettis fight out their contracts to test Free Agency and eventually leave the promotion the exact opposite has been true with Bellator MMA.
Despite testing Free Agency earlier in their careers to arrive with the Bellator MMA promotion Champions Cris Cyborg, and Sergio Pettis both most recently decided to re new their agreements with the promotion. The recent winner of a million dollar fight, Patch Mix who is currently the Interim Title Holder and scheduled to face Sergio Pettis has also signed a new long term deal with Bellator MMA ahead of their bantamweight unification bout.
Sergio Pettis who has gone 5-0 since his UFC departure will be facing a surging Patchy Mix who has won 5 fights in a row since his 2020 defeat to Rizin FF title challenger Juan Archuleta. A bout between the two has been rumored for a possible Bellator 300 fight card set to announce later this year.
For Bellator the re-signing mark a trend of keeping their top talent. A culture established by Scott Coker and Mike Kogan, Bellator MMA has recruited top Free Agents while also building you bluechip prospects from within. Their ability to retain the their top fighters and prospects as they reach free agency is a considerable factor into the strength and depth currently witnessed in the Bellator MMA roster.
