According to reports from Ariel Helwani John Dodson is officially a free agent, after meeting with UFC officials they were unable to come to terms, opening up a period where he is now free to shop for his market value. According to Helwani the door isn’t closed on his return to the UFC, rather he is just exploring what options and opportunities are available.
John Dodson beat current UFC Champion TJ Dillashaw to become the Ultimate fighter season 14 winner, and faced Demetrius Johnson in two bouts, losing a decision both times. With an overall record of 20-9 Dodson has been near the top for sometime of the division. Following a controversial split decision loss to Marlon Moraes, Dodson went on to pick up a win over Pedro Munhoz on the last fight of his contract.
A matchup against Bibiano Fernandes in ONE Championship, or and addition to the RIZIN FF or ACB rosters might be a viable option for John Dodson who at 33 years of age, realistically only has a few more years left in the sport to secure his financial security for the future.
Free agent John Dodson met with UFC officials recently. They didn’t come to terms on a new deal at the time and he’s now free to shop around. Door isn’t closed on a UFC return at all, but he’s currently exploring options, sources say.
