Light Heavyweight David Benavidez looked smooth, calm and calculated as he cruised to a 116-112, 117-111, 119-109 victory over former WBC Light weight champion and Olympican Oleksandr Gvozdyk in Las Vegas. Benavidez who improved to 29-0 with 24 KO’s with the performance made his debut at light heavywieght.
Benavidez is the #1 rated supermiddleweight and he had Oleksandr Gvozdyk hurt in several rounds before revealing that a suffered a hand injury in the third round. A torn ligament and a cut occurring in camp, Benavidez was happy with the performance against the larger Ukrainian opponent.
Benavidez used a stiff jab and strong body work to outclass his opponent who was a 2012 London Olympic Bronze medalist. Following the performance Benavidez noted that he intended to move back down in weight where he has established himself as the #1 contender for Canelo Alvarez. Cyborg who also picked up a Boxing victory in London on the same night, is a member of Team Benavidez as both fighters are coached under boxing coach Jose Benavidez Sr.
