The former UFC lightweight champion and current BMF titleholder delivered an emotional message following the service, promising that his teammate’s influence would remain with the team every time they compete.

Nascimento, known as “Puro Osso,” built a professional career that eventually took him to the UFC.

He competed professionally for more than a decade before earning his opportunity on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2018. He ultimately joined the UFC in 2021 and competed six times inside the Octagon, winning four of those bouts. His final fight came in June, when he dropped a split decision to Mitch Raposo.

But statistics only tell part of Nascimento’s story.

Inside Chute Boxe, he was also a training partner, teammate and trusted member of a group that has produced numerous high-level fighters. Oliveira and other members of the gym shared years of preparation, competition and the unique experiences that come with building an MMA career together.

Nascimento, a longtime teammate and close friend of Oliveira, was laid to rest Wednesday in Brazil following his sudden death at the age of 34. Members of the Chute Boxe team formed a guard of honor as his casket was carried from the academy, creating an emotional farewell for a fighter who had become an important part of the gym’s tight-knit community.

Nascimento’s legacy inside Chute Boxe is likely to be measured differently.

It will be remembered through the fighters he trained with, the people he helped, the camps he contributed to and the moments shared inside the academy.

And according to Oliveira, Nascimento will remain part of those moments.

Every time the Chute Boxe team walks toward the cage, Oliveira says his teammate will be there with them.

That may ultimately become the most lasting tribute of all.
