Being recognized as the sport of MMA’s only Grand Slam Champion the Legislative Assembly of Paraná honored Cris Cyborg at the proposed by congressman Alexandre Amaro (republicans) to proceed with an honorable mention of Cris Cyborg in relationship for the world wide prominence she has had in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, as well as the community activism she participates in.
Cristiane Justino Venancio is the current Bellator MMA Featherweight Champion and a UFC, Invicta, Strikeforce Champion which makes her the only Grand Slam Champion in the sport.
Speaking to the media Cyborg went on to say, “I’m the only woman who has conquered the big events and everywhere I’ve been competing I conquer my space representing women. In my first fight for a belt, outside Brazil, it was the most watched event in the history of women’s MMA”, in relationships to her reach in mainstream sports today.
“When she’s not fighting, she maintains the Pink Belt Fitness project, a kind of camp that brings together girls to train in self-defense. She also traveled to Uganda, Africa, to bring clean water to two villages, a noble mission. She is also the godmother of Hospital Erastinho, a reference in the treatment of children”, said deputy Alexandre Amaro.
Cris Cyborg also spoke about the Nação Cyborg project, a martial arts event that brings out new talents for the sport, taking Paraná’s name around the world. “I always seek to help the community, I want to be a champion in people’s lives. I was very touched by this honor”, said the athlete.
“I’m from Paraná, I went to the world and I want to make a change in my country too. I want to help and give opportunities to new athletes, to form new champions not only in the fighting world, but also in other areas”, she said.
Cris Cyborg is from Curitiba and started her sports career at age 12, playing handball. Due to his good performance in this activity, he won scholarships in private schools in the capital of Paraná. The athlete studied Physical Education before starting to fight Muay Thai. She had her first MMA fight in 2005. She now resides in the United States, the country that granted her citizenship.
