In terms of old rivalries die hard, one would have to think that is the case between Brazilians Vitor Belfort and Wanderlia Silva. Nearly 27 years after their classic UFC showdown the two are set to face each other once again, only this time it will be in the boxing ring as the two face each other Sept. 27th inside Boxing Ring in São Paulo.
Headlining the Spaten Fight Night 2 the two athletes are scheduled to compete in a real fight and not a sanctioned exhibition as they both noted their specific contracts include knockout bonuses outside of the guaranteed fight purse. According to Vitor Beflrot the clause was to make it clear that the fight was not an exhibition match.
Spaten 1 featured Anderson Silva Vs Chael Sonnen in a rematch which resembled a friendly sparring match however the rivalry between Wanderlia and Vitor Belfort does not seem to be as friendly. Belfort declined to say how much he’s getting paid before jokingly saying “less than what I deserve but more than I need.” Belfort will be competing for the Spaten belt and says he will be looking for the knockout.
During their first fight at UFC Brazil in 1998 Vitor Belfort blitzed Wanderlia Silva and knocked him out if just 44 seconds, and despite nearly 25 years of rematch calls finally Vitor Belfort has accepted. The bout will be fought in 12 ounce gloves with 2 minute rounds. Who do you think wins the rematch?
