Ben Henderson is tied for the UFC record for most consecutive lightweight Championship title defenses with 3. He is a WEC and UFC Champion and ranked #3 in the Bellator MMA promotion and was challenging to become one of the only Triple Crown Champions in the history of Mixed Martial Arts at Bellator 292. Usman Nurmagomedov needed a little over two and half minutes to finish one of the sport of MMA’s all time greats and to improve to 17-0.
Following the defeat Benson Henderson placed his gloves inside the center of the cage and officially retired from the sport of MMA with a record of 30 wins 12 defeats and a 7-7 record inside the Bellator MMA cage. The 39 year old Champion will now give his wife an opportunity to pursue a career as a professional athlete as he has promised to help dedicate his time to his family in order to give her that ability. In the other tournament bout on the card Alexandr Shabliy defeated former RIZIN Grand Prix champion Tofiq Musavev with a body kick that fractured a rib.
Other big winners at Bellator 292 included Michael Venom Page who used a leg kick to fracture the patella tendon holding Goiti Yamauchi knee in place. Linton Vassell got a huge KO over Valentin Maldavsky and Peru’s Enrique Barzola picked up the win over UFC veteran Erik Perez. Josh Hill earned a close split decision over Cass Bell in an absolutions firecracker of a fight. Khalid Murtazaliev defeated Tony Johnson and Dovletdzhan Yagshimuradov picked up a decision win over Julius Anglickas.
