While 95% of the talent that the UFC has been singing has needed to make their way to the UFC from a Contenders Series or an Ultimate Fighter audition there is the 5% who sign and go directly in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Luke Riley is one of those proteges. The Cage Warrior star has signed with the UFC as his manager Graham Boylan announced on social media against an opponent yet to be announced.
Riley who is 11-0 is the next generation of top European talent and if out of the same gym as Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann. The UFC had previously tried to bring him into the DWCS in 2024 but it was visa issues that prevented his participation. With 11 wins he has 8 KO’s making him a crowd favorite.
With PFL MMA having signed a lot of the world’s top up and coming regional talent the signing by the UFC re-enforced the idea that they are still in the game for hot talent. Riley who is 26 is immediately considered to compete for a top 15 ranking at the 145lbs featherweight division. Do you think Luke Riley is ready for the UFC? His last 5 victories have come against opponents with a combined 42-18 record.
What do yo think about the UFC signing fresh talent off the regional scene? Previously fighters would sign UFC contracts and not have to compete in a UFC audition before having a fight with the promotion. Do you think more fighters should get to debut directly in the UFC?
