UFC Boston was in front of a record breaking sellout crowd and featured the Irish named O’Malley scoring a spectacular 2nd round KO as the underdog against possibly the greatest Bantamweight Champion the UFC has ever had in Aljamain Sterling. After losing the 1st round to Aljo, O’Mally used his footwork to counter strike a right hand to the charging Sterling who was a southpaw. The gate was reported to be 7.25 Million for UFC 292.
Within hours of the victory the UFC put the full fight, including the knockout live on their socials and YouTube channel as UFC president Dana White announced, “O’Malley isn’t gonna be a star–he is a star.”
Other winners on the night included Weili Zhang, Ian Garry, Mario Bautista, Marlon Vera, Brad Tavares, Gregory Rodrigues, Kurt Holobaugh, Brad Katona, Andre Petroski, Natalia Silva, and Karine Silva.
Chris Weidman lost his return from leg injury, Cody Gibson won FOTN honors despite losing the Ultimate Fighter final to Brad Katona, and KGB Andrea Lee along with veteran Gerald Meershaert lost decisions.
