Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano are officially one step closer to making their combat sports return with an MMA fight against each other as the main event of Netflix first Mixed Martial Arts live sporting event broadcast. Rousey who has been retired 10 years from the UFC after back-to-back losses via knockout is now partnered with Most Valuable Promotions to return for a superfight against Gina Carano.
Carano last fought 17 years ago when she fought for the inaugural Strikeforce Women’s World Championship belt. Cyborg would go on to win the bout with a first rond stoppage before moving on to capture world championships with Invicta, UFC, Bellator, and the PFL MMA Promotions. Gina Carano transitioned into a several new chapters in her life including acting and movies before making her return to MMA.
Both fighters stepped on the scale today officially under the 145lbs featherweight limit as Rousey weighed in at 142lbs while Gina Carano stepped on the scale at 141.4. Following both athletes successfully making weight ahead of the Featherweight Fight Gina Carano shared a post where she revealed the weight loss was over 100 pounds during an 18 month period.
Ronda for years dodged a fight with Cris Cyborg at 145lbs or the catchweight of 140lbs using the excuse of one failed PED back in 2009. Cyborg has completed over 15 years of Olympic Style drug testing without incident. In 2016 Cris Cyborg became the first fighter not fighting in the UFC to sign with USADA and has proven to be a clean athlete.
