The latest “What in the world are they thinking” is from the sport of Professional Boxing where reporter Lance Pugmire is announcing negotiations between Katie Taylor and Ronda Rousey have began for a possible Boxing super fight to be broadcasted on Netflix have began. While fans might find this rumor to be crazy, it seems to be gaining momentum. Ronda Rousey who retired from WWE following 2 consecutive KO losses in the UFC to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes claimed to have stopped competing in combat sports do to an extensive history of CTE and concussion issues now seems set to make a return after 9 years away.
Katie Taylor who many consider the #1 pound for pound best female fighter in professional boxing while Ronda Rousey has been MIA from combat sports for close to 9 years now. Taylor who has gone 3-0 against Amanda Serrano is considered an all time great in professional boxing and a pioneer for women. While many in the combat sports media seemed to put momentum behind the rumors, Cris Cyborg quickly gave her opinion that the professional boxing fight between Katie Taylor and Ronda Rousey will never happen.
Fans of Cris Cyborg might remember the MMA Super Grand Slam Champion had her own negotiations with Katie Taylor about a possible MMA Vs Boxing crossover mega fight only for those plans to seemingly fizzle and Cyborg to compete elswewhere as she is now 7-0 while competing as a boxer. Cyborg gave her thoughts with a comical viral post on X in which she stated “I once saw Ronda Rousey shadow boxing and her shadow won! Zero chance she fights boxing. Maybe a return to the cage for a Gina Carano fight…but Ronda doesn’t belong anywhere near a boxing ring.”
What do you think? Is Ronda Rousey and her team trying to leverage the rumors of a return to combat sports and a possible boxing fight with Netflix to convince the UFC to increase her fight purse for a possible return? Do you think we see Ronda return to MMA or start a career in professional boxing?
