Just when it seemed like Dakota Ditcheva was going to run out of options at 125lbs the PFL MMA has gone and awkward two top free agents in former KSW champion Ariane Lipski da Silva and Viviane Araujo who both formerly competed in the UFC flyweight division. Both managed by Ali Abdelaziz the announcements initially came from Dominance MMA before later being confirmed by the promotion.
Ariane was a hot prospect entering into the UFC as the KSW champion but three losses to Karine Silva, Jasmine Jasudavicius, and Cong Wang. Now 31 years of age she went 6-8 as a fighter on the UFC roster dating back to 2019. Araujo was at least on the positive side going 7-6 during her time with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Following a loss to Tracey Cortez Araujo left the promotion after wins over Alexis Davis, Roxanne Modafferi, Andrea Lee, Jennifer Maia, and Karine Silva.
PFL MMA’s CEO John Martin announced that the league is moving away from it’s complicated Championship series into a more specific traditional title which presumably will be looking to crown Dakota Ditcheva as the inaugural flyweight champion after winning the PFL Europe Tournament. Liz Carmouche the final Bellator MMA Champion won the PFL MMA Flyweight tournament which leads most to believe that Liz Carmouche will be facing Dakota Ditcheva at some point in the future.
Fans of Cris Cyborg will remember Ariane Da Silva spent time at the Huntington Beach training facility of Cris Cyborg prior to her signing with the UFC. Cyborg who is thee PFL MMA Featherweight World Champion will return to the cage Dec. 13th as the CO PMiain event of PFL Lyon in France where she will fight world #3 ranked fighter Sara Collins.
