Kayla Harrison officially had her 2nd fight in the Bantamweight division and while she was victorious the bout also showed that she still has large holes in her game that are vulnerable to be exploited. While Ketlen Vieira did a good job of managing range and effectively landed a few strikes, a more proficient striker could leave Harrison exposed.
Winning the first round with an early takedown, Harrison was able to maintain dominant position where Vieira had to weather a storm before the start of round 2. Round 2 Vieira landed good strikes including an elbow which cut Kayla and several punches blooding Harrison’s mouth and nose. Had Ketlen done a better job of defending the takedown or fighting back to her feet she would have won the round on more than 1 judges score card.
Harrison secured an early takedown in round 3, however she was taking heavy breaths and the counter circling towards her lead hand from the southpaw position by Ketlen caused spacing and timing issue for Harrison throughout the fight. Cyborg who was a national level wrestler and is set to to fight Larissa Pacheco Oct. 19th had this to say about the fight, “Kayla is still growing as an athlete, give her time she is going to get it all. My focus is Pacheco who won 3 of the last 5 rounds against Kayla and is the only women to win 2 division PFL belts.”
Who do you think would win in a fight between Judo Kayla and Cris Cyborg? Could Cris Cyborg make 135lbs or would Kayla Harrison move up to 145lbs for this type of fight?
