I’ve been studying Bitcoin since I started my Bitcoin investment journey in 2017, and one thing I’ve learned is that Bitcoin can teach you a lot about patience.

As a professional fighter, I understand the temptation to react to every movement. In MMA, you have to constantly read your opponent, recognize patterns, manage distance, and make decisions under pressure.

Bitcoin is obviously very different from fighting, but there is one similarity: discipline matters.

When you look at a Bitcoin price chart, it is easy to become focused on every candle, every correction, and every percentage move. But one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as a Bitcoin investor is that trying to perfectly predict the market can become a distraction from the bigger picture.

For me, the more important question isn’t:

“Can I predict the next Bitcoin price move?”

It is:

“How much time am I willing to spend in the market?”

How Do You Read a Bitcoin Price Chart?

A Bitcoin price chart is simply a visual representation of Bitcoin’s price over a specific period of time.

Depending on the chart you’re looking at, you might see Bitcoin’s price represented through:

  • Candlesticks
  • Opening and closing prices
  • Highs and lows
  • Trading volume
  • Support and resistance levels
  • Moving averages
  • Different timeframes

A Bitcoin candlestick chart is particularly useful because each candle can show the opening price, closing price, highest price and lowest price during a specific period.

You can change the timeframe depending on what you’re trying to understand.

A one-minute chart can show extremely short-term movements, while daily, weekly and monthly charts can provide a much broader perspective.

That’s important because the same Bitcoin price movement can look completely different depending on the timeframe.

A small move on a weekly chart can look enormous on a one-minute chart.

Bitcoin Price Volatility Is Part of the Journey

Anyone who has followed Bitcoin knows that the price can move dramatically.

Bitcoin has experienced major rallies, corrections, bear markets and periods where the price appears to move sideways for extended periods.

That volatility can create a powerful psychological challenge.

When Bitcoin is going up quickly, people can feel like they are missing out.

When Bitcoin falls, people can suddenly question everything they believed when the price was going up.

This is where having a strategy becomes important.

As an athlete, I don’t build my training program based on how I feel during one round of sparring. I look at the entire camp.

I think long-term investors can apply a similar mindset to Bitcoin.

Can You Actually Time the Bitcoin Market?

People constantly ask:

“When is the best time to buy Bitcoin?”

The truth is that nobody knows exactly what Bitcoin’s price will be tomorrow, next month or next year.

There are traders who use technical analysis, market cycles, momentum, volume and other indicators to make decisions. Some investors also attempt to buy during corrections or accumulate at specific price levels.

But successfully predicting every major top and bottom is extremely difficult.

Even if someone correctly predicts one major Bitcoin move, that doesn’t mean they will correctly predict the next one.

That’s why I think it is important to distinguish between trading Bitcoin and building a long-term Bitcoin position.

They are two different approaches.

Time in the Market vs. Timing the Market

One of the most important concepts for a long-term Bitcoin investor to understand is the difference between time in the market and timing the market.

Trying to time the market means attempting to determine exactly when to buy and sell based on expected price movements.

Time in the market means remaining invested according to a long-term strategy rather than constantly trying to predict every short-term move.

For some investors, dollar-cost averaging (DCA) is one way to approach this. Instead of trying to identify the perfect entry price, an investor purchases a predetermined amount on a regular schedule.

The advantage isn’t that DCA guarantees profits—it doesn’t.

The idea is that it removes some of the pressure of having to identify the perfect moment to enter the market.

What Bitcoin Charts Can—and Can’t—Tell You

Learning technical analysis can be valuable.

Understanding trends, volume, support and resistance can help you understand what is happening in the market.

But a chart isn’t a crystal ball.

A Bitcoin chart shows you what has happened and what is happening. It doesn’t guarantee what happens next.

That’s an important distinction.

I don’t look at Bitcoin and expect to know exactly where the price will be tomorrow.

Instead, I want to understand the larger market environment and continue learning about the technology, monetary system and investment thesis behind Bitcoin.

Think Long Term

My career in MMA has lasted more than two decades.

I didn’t build that career by focusing on one training session or one fight.

I focused on consistency.

I focused on getting better.

I focused on staying disciplined when things didn’t go according to plan.

That experience has influenced the way I think about Bitcoin.

Bitcoin has existed for more than a decade, and its history includes enormous price increases as well as enormous drawdowns.

Looking at only one day—or even one month—doesn’t tell the entire story.

For me, Bitcoin is a long-term journey.

That doesn’t mean ignoring risk. It doesn’t mean assuming the price will always go up. And it definitely doesn’t mean that everyone should invest in Bitcoin.

It means understanding what you own, understanding the risks, doing your own research and developing a strategy that matches your goals.

Keep Learning About Bitcoin

One of the reasons I continue to learn about Bitcoin is because I don’t want to simply own it—I want to understand it.

That means learning about:

  • Bitcoin’s fixed supply
  • Proof of Work
  • Decentralization
  • Self-custody
  • Hardware wallets
  • Private keys and seed phrases
  • Bitcoin security
  • Market cycles
  • Long-term investing
  • The history of money

The more I learn, the more I understand why Bitcoin has become such an important part of the global financial conversation.

And I believe education is one of the most important parts of becoming a responsible Bitcoin participant.

My Biggest Bitcoin Lesson

If I had to summarize what I’ve learned from watching Bitcoin since 2017, it would be simple:

Don’t let the chart control you. Learn how to read it.

Bitcoin’s price will move.

There will be green candles.

There will be red candles.

There will be excitement, fear, corrections, rallies and periods when nobody seems to know what happens next.

You don’t have to predict every move to understand Bitcoin.

For me, the bigger lesson is time, discipline and education.

In MMA, I learned that one fight doesn’t define an entire career.

In Bitcoin, I’m learning that one candle doesn’t define an entire market.

Study the chart. Understand the risk. Do your own research. Think long term.

And if you want to continue learning alongside me, I’ll see you at Bitcoin 2027 in Nashville, July 15–17, 2027.
