With the removal of Roman ‘Chocoatito’ Gonzalez from the May 5th GGG Gennady Golovkin V Vanes Martirosyan bout due to work visa issues, HBO will make history and broadcast their first ever female boxing fight.
Replacing Chocolatito on the undercard will be the only female fighter to unify all 4 major belts, Cecilia Braekhus as she makes her USA debut against Middleweight Champion Kali Reis. According to ESPN boxing expert Dan Rafael this will be the firs time the HBO network has ever broadcasted a women’s boxing match.
Golovkin was originally scheduled to face Canelo in Las Vegas at the T-mobile arena however a failed test for clenbuterol found Canelo suspended, which moved the bout for GGG to California and saw his opponent Martirosyan get named as a last minute replacement.
GGG promoter Tom Loeffer ended up changing this bout from an HBO PPV to a regular HBO broadcast.
The Golovkin vs. Martirosyn fight card will be take place on May 5 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The Golovkin-Martirosyan and Braekhus-Reiss fights will be televised on World Championship Boxing starting at 11:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. PT.

Braekhus who is 32-0 in her professional career will look to maintain her IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC, WBO world titles when she faces the 13-6 Kali Reis. Cris Cyborg has said she is planning on being in attendance, and is hopeful to make a bout between her and Cecilia happen sometime in the future in a Floyd Mayweather Vs. Conor McGregor style cross over matchup.
