The Mexican Monster David Benavidez was too good for The Beast Anthony Yarde as he finished him in the 7th round with 20 pummeling hooks in the clenched position to score a PPV victory in Riyadh Saudi Arabia. Benavidez defended his light heavyweight WBC World Championship and following the victory took to the microphone to announce he would be moving up in weight to challenge Gilberto Zurdo Ramirez on May 2nd where he will challenge for the WBA and WBO cruiserweight world championships currently held by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions champion Gilberto Zurdo Ramirez.
Benavidez and Zurdo will showcase Mexican boxing in Las Vegas. Yarde was unable to keep up with the pressure and aggression of the Mexican Monster as Benavidez pushed him into the ropes with heavy damaging strikes. Yarde was successful early with his jab and some counter punching but the forward footed David Benavidez was just too much for him as fatigue started to visibly show on Yarde. Benavidez really turned up the volume and Yarde took a knee in the 7th round.
Benavidez aggression continued even after he was deducted a point for punching Yarde while he was on the floor landing hooks and uppercuts at will. The ref finally responded by stopping the fight after several crushing left hooks landed without any response from Yarde. This was the first stoppage at light heavyweight for Benavidez. The Benavidez X Ramirez class for Cinco De Mayo will be a huge draw to the Mexican boxing fans and a sellout in Las Vegas. Devin Haney picked up a win over Brian Norman Jr. and Jesse Bam Rodriguez kept his undefeated record unifying the WBA, WBC, and WBO super flyweight world championships.
