Fans of Bellator MMA’s Featherweight division have been anticipating a matchup between MMA’s only Grand Slam Champion Cris Cyborg and Cat Zingano for sometime. Zingano a BJJ Brown Belt and ADCC Qualifying champion has been undefeated at 145lbs after a freak eye injury against Megan Anderson in 2018 she has gone on to pick up a decision victory over Gabrielle Holloway and a quick armbar win against PFL fighter Olivia Parker.
With wins over Raquel Pennington, Carina Damm, Barb Honchak, Miesha Tate, and Amanda Nunes the resume of Cat Zingano is very impressive. Whatever difficulties have come with matchmaking, fans have been unable to watch the blockbuster showdown as of yet. Scheduled to face former Invicta FC Featherweight Champion Pam Sorenson at Bellator 282, Zingano will face another fighter with 4 career defeats. Sorenson who is 9-4 overall has wins over PFL standouts Roberta Samada, Veteran Kaitlin Young, Helena Kolensnyk, Moriel Charneski, UFC veteran Jessica-Rose Clark, and former UFC Champion Nicco Montano on her resume.
Cyborg who won her last fight against #1 contender Arlene Blencowe a former 2x World Boxing Champion has looked impressive since her 2018 defeat to Amanda Nunes, having won 6 fights in a row ending her UFC career with a victory over #1 contender Felicia Spencer before capturing Julia Budd’s World Championship in Bellator and defending it 4 consecutive times successfully. Cyborg gave her predictions for the matchup during her weekly interview session with Top Canadian MMA reporter James Lynch
