Cris Cyborg who does a weekly Youtube series called ‘The Catch Up’ with top Canadian MMA reporter James Lynch spoke about the upcoming UFC Vancouver event taking place this weekend which features Amanda Nunes against Irene Aldana in the main event. Originally scheduled to face Juliana Pena at UFC 289, Nunes accepted Aldana as a replacement after Pena suffered a broken rib in training camp. Nunes and Pena are 1-1 against each other with Pena finishing Nunes in the first fight and Nunes winning the rematch by decision.
While Irene Aldana is ranked #5 in the Bantamweight division, Cyborg went on to tell James Lynch that if she is able to stop the takedown the team she is from has the ability to put together a gameplay that if executed correctly could see a new UFC Champion on Saturday night. Aldana who is a teammate of Alexis Grasso who most recently defeated Valentina Shevchenko has looked confident all week as she has flashed the number “4” with her hands, signifying she is set to become the “4th UFC Champion from Mexico”.
Cyborg went on to say that a lot of it depends on “Which Amanda shows up”. Nunes who has 5 career defeats was never champion of StrikeForce or Invicta FC because of losses to contenders like Alexis Davis and Sarah Dalelio. Losing to Ana India before moving from the regional shows of Brazil, Nunes other two losses occurred against Cat Zingano and Juliana Pena. With a loss in Canada do you think Amanda Nunes would retire?
