Former UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira didn’t listen to the critics who said he was returning back to the cage too soon after having suffered a knockout loss. Oliveira who put top rated contender Mateusz Gamrot on his back and exposed the differences in his Jiu Jitsu skills picking up a 2nd round face crank submission in the 2nd round of UFC Fight Night 261 which took place at the Famasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro. Oliveira improved to 24-11 in the UFC to have his 36th fight inside of the Ultimate Fighting Championship promotion.
Gamrot accepted the fight on short notice as a replacement for Rafael Fizzier and after an initial takedown was deep in trouble with an omoplata from Oliveira who utilized the technique to secure a sweep and establish the top position before advancing to the back and secur9ng a body triangle. Surviving the round two division KSW champion didn’t have much of an answer in round 2 as Oliveira took up exactly where he left off and securing the 2nd round Face Crank submission in front of his home crowd before calling for a super fight against Max Holloway.
Deiveson Figueiredo picked up a split decision over Montel Jackson while Vicente Luque struggled with Joel Alvarez losing a 3 round decision. Mario Pinto made a statement win over former K1 champion Jhonata Diniz, World Brazilian Jiu Jitsu BJJ Champion Bea Mesquita picked up a 2nd round submission win over Irina Alekseeva. Other winners from the UFC Rio Fight Night included Lucas Rocha, Julia Polastri, Luan Lacerda, Vitor Petrino, Jafel Filho, Michael Aswell and Kan Ofli.
