Caleb Plant might have been a huge favorite in Vegas to the betters, but that didn’t translate in the Boxing ring Saturday night in Las Vegas as Caleb Plant went on to lose a split decision to Armando Resendiz and inevitably delay his fight against Jermall Charlo. Resendiz showed good composure against Plant and captured the Interim WBA Super Middleweight fight 2 judges to 1.
Plant landed several quality shots but was unable to find his rhythm where Resendiz took advantage with multiple powershot exchanges of his own. Plant never seemed to kick things into high gear despite his ability to land a strong jab throughout the opening rounds. As the fight entered the 4th and 5th rounds it was Resendiz who was able to take control of the forward progressional and had Plant’s back against the ropes.
Compubox had Resendiz landing 186 punches with Plant landing 109 and Resendiz throwing almost 100 more punches during the right. For Resendiz this was the biggest win of his career besides a 2023 victory over Jarrett Hurd. Manny Robles was the boxing trainer in the corner for Resendiz, Robles was famously in the corner of Andy Ruiz as the mexican boxer scored one of Boxing’s biggest upsets over Anthony Joshua.
Cris Cyborg who trained with Team Benavidez and head coach Jose Benavidez Sr ahead of her last fight had a teammate Daniel Blancas who was in training camp for a fight on the same card as the Plant X Resendiz fight card. Blancas picked up a 1st round KO to improve to 13-0. Cyborg won her fight against Precious Harris McCray by 2nd round KO to be ranked top 10 in the World according to BoxRec.
