Valentina Shevchenko keeps the win streak going at UFC 322 as she picked up an unanimous decision against the former straw weight champion Weili Zhang who moved up in weight to challenge for the flyweight belt and an opportunity to join Amanda Nunes as the only female “Champ Champ” in UFC history.
While Weili Zhang was competitive, it was never really close as Valentina controlled the distance and smothered with top heavy grappling to secure a unanimous 50-45 decision on all three of the judges score cards. With the win Valentina has now won 3 in a row following her loss and draw to Alexa Grasso in 2023
With the victory many fans think there could be reason for Valentina Shevchenko to move back to the bantamweight division with the rumor of Amanda Nunes returning and the possibility of Kayla Harrison at that weight. While both of those matchups are exciting, Valentina Shevchenko still has a good division of competitors including Natalia Silva and Erin Blanchfield who have asserted themselves as top contenders.
Cyborg who trained with Valentina Shevchenko in her private training facility in Huntington Beach CA in the lead up to the Amanda Nunes UFC 232 fight had this to say about the long time champion, “She is the ultimate martial artist. I love seeing the success she has had and how she continues to lead by setting a great example for other women looking to get involved in martial arts.”
