It appears that both sides of the SUPERFIGHT between Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell have met with Golden Boy promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya about making a possible MMA fight between the two UFC legends happen this winter.
Our sources have told us noting is finalized, however it looks good and that both fighters are wanting to make this third and final fight between the two legends happen. The UFC celebrating it’s 25 year anniversary would have been a logical fit for the two UFC Icon’s to rematch, however sources close to the deal say that the UFC’s interest on the fight has cooled and that the leading option currently is a super event with Oscar De La Hoya’s GoldenBoy Promotions. Tito who lost the first two matches to Chuck Liddell is looking to finish his career with a victory against his old teammate and training partner.
A partnership between two of MMA’s biggest Icon’s in Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz could revolutionize the way Combat Sports athletes approach a perspective contract. While the UFC currently offers PPV options to only a select few, a more traditional boxing approach to promotion could give the elite athletes a larger percentage of the profits from the events they participate on. This story is still developing, and we will update you as it progresses.
