Paul Hughes first fought Usman Nurmagomedov this past January to a very close decision loss, and following a stunning first round KO over Bruno Miranda, Paul Hughes has earned his rematch against Usman Nurmagomedov Oct. 3rd in Dubai as the main event of PFL MMA.
Speaking to MMA Fighting Paul Hughes says “I certainly would have a lot more respect for him if he came out straight away and was like ‘I want this rematch now.” Hughes went on to say, “Fair enough, maybe I’ll go have one more fight and then to the rematch but that’s exactly what I did and knocked Bruno Miranda out in 43 seconds and knocked im down with the first punch. I didn’t get hit once. How better can I prove myself anyhow better can I build up an even bigger rematch.”
It was announced originally that Usman Nurmagomedov would fight the number one contender in lightweight Archie Colgan against Mansour Barnaoui however after Colgan won the bout the PFL eventually announced the Usman Nurmagomedov X Paul Hughes 2.
Hughes said “I think their team, they did try and delay it as long as they could and they did a great job of that but ultimately they were told what they have to do that is the rematch and here we are.” Usman Nurmagomedov is 19-0 and was officially the final Bellator MMA Champion, the bout tomorrow will be for a new PFL MMA Championship belt in the lightweight division.
