Contender Series Standout Gets Unexpected UFC Debut at UFC 330

A late injury has forced another change to the UFC 330 lineup, but the shakeup has created a major opportunity for one fighter who has been waiting for his chance inside the Octagon.

Eduardo Henrique is stepping in on short notice to face Charles Johnson after Jose Ochoa was forced to withdraw from their scheduled flyweight matchup. The bout is set for Saturday, Aug. 15, at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.

Eduardo Henrique Finally Gets His UFC Opportunity

Henrique enters the matchup with a professional record of 15-2 and will make his UFC debut under circumstances few fighters would choose.

The former Legacy Fighting Alliance flyweight champion has been out of action for nearly nine months. His most recent appearance came in September 2025, when he defeated An Tuan Ho by decision on Dana White’s Contender Series.

Despite earning the victory, Henrique did not receive a UFC contract at the time. He also competed on Season 33 of The Ultimate Fighter, giving him additional experience under the UFC banner before finally receiving the call to join the promotion’s active roster.

Now, an injury elsewhere on the UFC 330 card has opened the door.

Henrique will have just days to prepare for his Octagon debut, but the opportunity could prove far more valuable than a traditional UFC debut. A strong performance against an established UFC fighter could immediately put the 15-2 prospect on the radar of the flyweight division.

Charles Johnson Brings Plenty of Experience

Waiting across the cage will be Charles Johnson, who owns a 19-9 professional record and has already established himself as one of the UFC’s most active fighters.

Johnson most recently competed in June, suffering a loss to Asu Almabayev. His matchup with Henrique will mark his fourth UFC fight of 2026.

That schedule makes Johnson the UFC’s most active fighter this year, with an average of approximately one bout every 98 days.

The matchup therefore presents an intriguing contrast.

Henrique is making his UFC debut after accepting the fight on extremely short notice, while Johnson enters with considerable Octagon experience and an unusually high level of activity.

A Second Chance at the UFC

For Henrique, however, the circumstances surrounding this opportunity may make the fight even more significant.

Winning on Dana White’s Contender Series without receiving a contract can be a difficult setback for a prospect. Henrique now has a chance to bypass the traditional path back to the UFC and prove his ability against an established member of the roster.

The former LFA champion’s 15-2 record demonstrates that he has already built an impressive résumé outside the promotion. His UFC debut will now give him the opportunity to show whether that success can translate to the highest level of MMA.

And unlike a typical debut, there will be little time for a gradual introduction.

Henrique has been handed a difficult opponent, a short preparation window and a massive stage at UFC 330.

UFC 330 Survives Another Shakeup

The Henrique-Johnson change is another adjustment to an event that has already attracted significant attention.

Despite the late withdrawal, UFC 330 remains scheduled as a 12-fight card and features two championship bouts at the top of the event.

The main event will see Islam Makhachev defend the UFC welterweight championship against Ian Machado Garry, while Mackenzie Dern puts the UFC women’s strawweight title on the line against Gillian Robertson.

For Henrique, however, the biggest story may be much closer to the beginning of the card.

What began as a Contender Series victory without a UFC contract has now turned into an unexpected opportunity to make his official Octagon debut.

All he has to do is capitalize on it.
