Mikaela Mayer becomes unified champion at 154lbs Women’s Boxing

Mikaela Mayer has now unified belts at 154lbs after her lopsided decision over Mary Spencer to become WBA, WBC, WBO World Champion at 154lbs.   Facing Mary Spencer in Montreal Canada it was the headline fight for Top Rank at the Casino De Montreal. Mayer pushed from the opening bell with relentless pressure and cardio.  Spencer who despite being the bigger fighter lacked the ability to deal with the heavy forward movement and constant output by Mayer.   With a 100-90 and two 98-92 scorecards Mayer put on about as dominant of a performance as possible.

The lone belt outside of Mayer is the IBF which is currently held by Oshae Jones.  With a fight against Jones Mayer has a chance to become undisputed at 154lbs or there is the possibility to move down and fight Lauren Price at 147lbs.  Mayer stated that she would love to do both fighting at 147 to become undisputed and to defend at 154 saying that she is a natural 147 pounder but that she can do both.  Mayer was world champion at Superfeatherweight and welterweight before the eventual move to Junior Middleweight.

Mayer lost a close fight to Alycia Baumgardner in 2022 falling short of a unification fight but bounced back after a close decision to Natasha Jonas to pick up a world title defeating Sandy Ryan for the WBO.  Spencer who is 40 really never did much in terms of impact as Mayer continued backing her down most of the fight. Cris Cyborg who is currently ranked 6th in the world by BoxRec could be a future opponent for Makaela Mayer if there is a promote with a big enough purse for the WMMA legend.  Currently undefeated competing in boxing at 7-0 Cris Cyborg return to MMA with a December 13th World Championship fight for the PFL MMA in Lyon France against the undefeated Sara Collins of Australia.
