
Maricela Cornejo needed just 44 seconds this past weekend in the Costa Rica before boxing referred Ronald Alvarez was forced to stop the fight as Cornejo improved to 16-5 with the victory and claimed the vacated WBC Silver World Middleweight Boxing Championship in the process. Cornejo who last fought in March of 2022 picked up the victory at 160lbs and has now won 3 in a row at that weight including a win over former Brazilian National Champion Simone Silva.
Cornejo who is a training partner of Cris Cyborg spent a majority of the training camp at the Team Benavidez facility in Seattle Washington put on a great performance and has many people speculating on a possible showdown with GWOAT Claressa Shields. While Shields has a few options on who to fight next, Cornejo is a proven veteran who is based in the USA and a latina which would do well with the boxing market.
The main event featured Yokasta Valle improve to 27-2 as she picked up a decision over the previously undefeated Jessica Basulto Salazar at 105lbs. With 4 professional fights on the card the event took place at the Club y Hotel Condovac La Costa in Guanacaste Costa Rica under promoter Mario Vega and was overseen by the Commission Costarricense De Boxer Profesional. Cyborg who is currently 2-0 as a profession in boxing as been rumored to make a return to the boxing ring before a return to MMA later this summer.
