Jessica Camara of Canada went all the way to South Korea to take the WBA Gold Belt at Lightweight against Hyunmi Choi in front of a disappointed audience inside the Ajou University of Suwon, South Korea. While many in attendance expected the home town favorite Choi to capture the World Boxing Association Lightweight Gold Belt, it was Camara who landed the stronger punches throughout the bout.
Choi was world Super Featherweight champion for 10 years prior to returning to the ring in a new weight class. Choi lost her status as 130 pounds champion when she missed her mandatory fight against Alycia Baumgardner who went on to become undisputed in the weight class.
Camara used her experience as the bigger fighter to push the action and attack Jessica Camara the entire fight. With an extensive amateur background and a 12-4 record heading into the fight, Camara was well prepared for the showdown against South Korea’s female boing legend.
