It appears that the final chapters of the Global Fight League might have been written before the book ever got a chance to get read. News has surfaced that the startup promotional league has canceled it’s first two events which were scheduled for May 24th and 25th at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. After announcing the first two events the GFL began promoting a weekend event which was to showcase 31 bouts. Andy Foster later confirmed that the event was canceled after online rumors began to be reported.
GFL was suppose to feature a return to the sport of Urijah Faber in a rematch against Renan Barao while GFL 2 was marking a matchup between Tony Ferguson and Dillon Danis as the main event. For Dillon Danis this is the 2nd high profile fight he has had cancelled in as many months, the first being a showdown against influencer turned boxer KSI for Misfits.
The promotion which was set to have a team based format with teams located in LA, NY, London, Dubai, Sao Paulo and Miami already announced. Collectively the company had 42 UFC veterans on their roster and several former UFC and Bellator MMA veterans. GFL Founder Darren Own told Yahoo Sports that the events were scrapped when an “investor didn’t fulfill his obligations.” and noted that the organization plans to “Keep pushing forward” however no new events have been announced and fighters from GFL 1 and GFL 2 have been looking for information.
