
One of the greatest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu players, if not the Greatest of All Time Marcelo Garcia has announced that he will be returning to competitive submission grappling with a match January 24th at ONE Championship 170 when he faces Japanese grappling legend and footlock master Masakazu Imanari at the Bangkok Impact Arena.
While now 41 years of age, Marcelo Garcia is a 5x IBJJ World Champion and a four time ADCC World Champion capturing those accomplishments in some of the most stacked divisions in brazilian jiu jitsu wile remaining PED performance enhancement free. Known for his open weight performances in ADCC, Marcelo Garcia employed a game full of butterfly guard, arm drags, and guillotine chokes making him one of the greatest ever.
Marcelo Garcia last stepped onto the mats in 2011 when he won four matches, submitting three opponents on his way to becoming the ADCC Champion. His matchup with Imanari will be his first grappling performance in more than 13 years after stepping away from competition to focus on his New York based academy before defeating cancer.
