MMA’s Only Grand Slam Champion has teased at the idea of becoming the latest cross over from Mixed Martial Arts into the sport of boxing earlier this year before facing off against 2x Female World Boxing Champion Arlene Blencowe in defense of her Bellator MMA Championship on CBS Sports Network. Cyborg a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt brought Vergil Ortiz Sr. into training camp as her head boxing coach, the father of ESPN Boxing standout of the year Vergil Ortiz Jr who is currently 16-0 with 16KO’s on his professional record.
Vergil is considered Boxing’s hottest young star as he gets set to battle former Wbo junior Welterweight Champion Maurice Hooker in a battle of hometown fighters at the dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas which will be showcased live on DAZN. Ortiz and Hooker are both from Dallas and will be fighting just 30 miles from their home city, in a bout that is expected to excite. Hooker who is 27-1-3 as a professional will be making his first fight after a 15 month layoff, following a first round TkO over Uriel Perez in 2019
With a win for Vergil Ortiz, some have speculated a fight against Bud Crawford could be next for the Golden Boy promotional star. Fans who will be in attendance can look for the Bellator MMA Champion in attendance as Cris Cyborg will be flying out from her hometown of Las Vegas Nevada to attend the event in the DFW area at the DICKIES Arena.
