Vergil Ortiz Jr is a man on a mission and made a huge statement with his victory in Texas with Jaron “Boots” Ennis ringside to watch.  Ortiz who is a perfect 24-0 added his 22nd KO to his record in a blowout performance against Erickson Lubin in a fight that many experts expected to be a tough test.

If this was the tough test, Vergil Ortiz Jr passed with flying colors!  Needing only 2 rounds to secure the stoppage victory in front of the Fort Worth Texas crowd that packed the Dickies arena as Vergil Ortiz Jr successfully defended his WBC Interim Superwelterweight world championship belt.

Ortiz hurt Lubin in the opening minute of the 2nd round and pushed him back to the ropes where Ortiz eventually put enough damage on him to force the ref to stop the fight. The official stop of the fight came at 1:27 of the 2nd round as the ref saved Lubin from any additional damage.  Lubin had only lost twice before to SEBASTIAN FUNDORA and Jermell Charlo.

With 21 KO’s in a row, Ortiz faced his first decision in a knockout of a fight against Serhii Bohachuk and Israil Madrimov however he’s back in the KO column after Lubin.  Cris Cyborg who trained under Vergil Ortiz Sr the father and trainer of Vergil Jr had this to say, “I love seeing his success.  Vergil Jr comes from a dedicated family of support and his work ethic is unmatched. I believe Vergil Ortiz Jr will be one of the biggest names in Boxing and this fight showed why.”
