38 years old with no losses on his record and a bank full of cash, Terence Crawford has finally called it a career as he announced his retirement from the sport of professional boxing in a video posted to his social media. “Walking away as a great with nothing else left to prove. #CrawfordEra as he reminded fans he retired ranked as the #1 pound for pound best fighter in Boxing and a 3X undisputed Champion with 5 different divisions he has won a champion in reminding fans he has 2 ESPY awards to go with all of his credentials.
Cris Cyborg who made her USA boxing debut as a Co Main Event for Terence Crawford’s return to Omaha Nebraska when she defeated Gabby Holloway had this to say about Crawford’s retirement, “He is an all time great, the best of my era and an absolute legend. I love seeing him go out on top and it was a pleasure to share a fight card with him so early in my boxing career. He is an absolute legend.”
Crawford was undisputed at 140,147, and 168 pounds. 42-0 as a professional fans last saw Crawford in the ring when he captured the WBA, IBF, WBO and WBC Super Middleweight championships by defeated Canelo Alvarez by unanimous decision. Crawford spoke to fans and said, “I spent my whole life chasing something. Not belts, not money, not headlines. But that feeling. The one yo get when the world doubts you but you keep showing up and you keep proving everyone wrong. I fought for my family. I fought for my city. I fought for the kids I used to be, the one who had nothing but a dream and a pair of gloves and I did it all my way. I gave this sort every breath I had.
Crawford struggled to become mainstream with promoters often placing him behind their more popular and established fighters however when he won his WBO World title in 2014 fans could no longer ignore his ability to become undisputed world champion Crawford would go on to win 18 world championships in 4 different weight classes ending his career a perfect 42-0.
