Plunge Cold Tub Review (2026): My $5,000 Experience with the Generation 1 Pro:

Recovery has been one of the biggest reasons I’ve been able to compete at the highest level of mixed martial arts for more than two decades. Every championship training camp includes strength training, sparring, nutrition, sleep, physical therapy, massage, and cold water immersion.

As an 18-time MMA World Champion, I don’t mind investing in premium recovery equipment if it delivers long-term value and dependable support.

About three years ago, I purchased a Plunge Generation 1 Pro for approximately $5,000. I expected a premium cold therapy system backed by premium customer service.

This review is based solely on my personal experience owning and using the product.

Why I Chose the Plunge Generation 1 Pro

When I purchased my Plunge, it was considered one of the leading premium cold plunge systems available.Rather than choosing a lower-priced option, I decided to invest in what I believed would be a durable, long-term recovery solution for my training camps. The cold plunge was never used commercially. It was maintained by Team Cyborg and used primarily during professional fight camps to help with post-training recovery.

My First Experience: The Chiller Didn’t Work

Unfortunately, my ownership experience began with a problem. When my Generation 1 Pro arrived, the chiller was not functioning. After contacting Plunge, a replacement chiller was eventually sent a few weeks later, allowing me to begin using the system. Although I appreciated receiving the replacement, it was disappointing that a premium product required service immediately after delivery.

Nearly Three Years Later, Another Problem

After less than three years of ownership, the replacement chiller began producing a loud rattling noise.Since the system had been regularly maintained and used only during training camps, Team Cyborg’s first goal was simple:

Repair the existing unit.We submitted a customer support request through the Plunge website, including photos and videos documenting the issue.

Then we waited.

Approximately two weeks passed before receiving a response.

For a professional athlete in the middle of training camp, that delay was frustrating because recovery equipment is part of daily preparation. Eventually, I also reached out through Instagram, where more than one million people follow my account, hoping to connect with someone who could assist.

My Customer Service Experience

When Plunge responded to our support request, we were informed the unit was no longer covered under warranty. According to the information provided to us, further assistance would begin with a $135 diagnostic fee. Because our original submission already included videos and photographs of the issue, I personally found the diagnostic process difficult to understand, as it appeared the review would be performed remotely using the materials already submitted.

We were also informed that, if repairs were necessary, service would include a minimum four-hour labor charge totaling approximately $740, regardless of the actual repair time. After additional conversations with customer service, Team Cyborg was able to have the $135 diagnostic fee waived.

I appreciated that decision.

The Recommended Repair

After reviewing the original videos, customer service informed us that the problem appeared to be a cooling fan inside the chiller. Based on our communication with Plunge, we were advised that replacement fans were not offered for this repair. Instead, we were encouraged to purchase a replacement chiller with a suggested price of approximately $1,300.

Later, the company offered a 30% discount toward purchasing that replacement.

While I appreciated the discount offer, I was disappointed that repairing what appeared to be a single failed component was not presented as an available option.

Was My $5,000 Plunge Worth It?

Every buyer has different expectations. For me, spending approximately $5,000 on premium recovery equipment created certain expectations:

Long-term reliability
Readily available replacement parts
Responsive customer support
Straightforward repair options

My personal ownership experience included:

Initial chiller arriving non-functional
Waiting several weeks for a replacement
Properly maintaining the system during ownership
A second chiller issue developing in under three years
Approximately two weeks waiting for an initial customer service response
Being informed the warranty had expired
A proposed $135 diagnostic fee (later waived)
A potential minimum labor charge of approximately $740 if repairs were required
A recommendation to replace the chiller rather than replace the identified fan

Those experiences influenced my opinion of the product’s long-term value.

The Cost of Ownership

Looking strictly at my own investment:

Initial purchase: Approximately $5,000
Suggested replacement chiller: Approximately $1,300
Potential labor charges discussed: Approximately $740
Original diagnostic fee proposed: $135 (ultimately waived)

Although not all of those costs were ultimately incurred, they were factors I considered when deciding whether to continue investing in the platform. For equipment used primarily during training camps, I ultimately concluded that replacing the entire system made more sense than investing further in the existing one.

Why I’m Switching to Another Cold Plunge

After spending several weeks working through the support process during training camp, I decided it was time to move on. Instead of purchasing another replacement chiller for my existing Plunge, Team Cyborg has chosen to invest in a newer cold therapy system from another manufacturer.

Today’s recovery market offers products with:

Bluetooth connectivity
Mobile app integration
Improved temperature controls
Modern software features
Updated hardware designs

Technology has evolved significantly since I purchased my Generation 1 Pro, making this an appropriate time for me to upgrade.

My Final Thoughts

Every customer’s experience will be different.

This review reflects only my own ownership experience with a Plunge Generation 1 Pro purchased approximately three years ago.

While I recognize that equipment can fail over time, I was disappointed by the length of time it took to receive an initial response during training camp and by the repair options presented after spending approximately $5,000 on what I considered a premium recovery system. Customer service becomes most important when something goes wrong. In my experience, that is where this ownership experience fell short of my expectations.

Because of those experiences, Team Cyborg has decided to transition to a different cold therapy system rather than continue investing in this platform.

I hope sharing my experience helps athletes and consumers evaluate not only a product’s features, but also the long-term ownership experience, warranty considerations, repair options, and customer support before making a significant investment.

This article reflects my personal ownership experience and opinions regarding a Plunge Generation 1 Pro purchased approximately three years ago. Other customers may have different experiences, and products, policies, and support procedures may change over time.
