A pre fight drug test has come back from the Voluntary Anti Doping Association that has caused Costa Rican boxer Hanna Gabriels to be removed from her scheduled fight against GWOAT female boxer Claressa Shields. The bout which was scheduled to take place June 3rd at the Little Caeser’s Arena in Detroit Michigan will now featured #1 ranked 160lber contender Maricela Cornejo who has won 3 straight fights and has a 16-5 record overall.
Fans of Cyborg Nation will be familiar with Maricela Cornejo as she is a frequent sparring partner of Cris Cyborg, and champ Cris Cyborg most recently did training camp with Team Jose Benavidez Sr, thanks to the introduction by Maricela Cornejo who is from the Prosser Washington area.
Cyborg has trained with both Cornejo and Shields in the past and had this to say about the fight, “Cornejo is in the best place she has ever been at since I’ve known her. She is in great physical condition and mentally she is prepared for a career defining moment. Shields is a 2x Gold Medalist, 3 weight class undisputed champion, and the face of boxing. I love how Shields is challenging herself against the #1 contender in Cornejo and this will be a classic matchup.”
