Mackenzie Dern made history with her win in Abu Dhabi to capture the 115lbs Flyweight world championship after Weili Zhang vacated her belt to move up and pursue a super fight against Valentina Shevchenko and an opportunity at the flyweight world championship. Mackenzie Dern faced a very tough Virna Jandiroba for a vacated UFC belt earning a 5 round decision and giving her the third straight win.
Speaking to media following her UFC win Dern said this, “I don’t know how much say I have now being a champion, I don’t know how much my word and my decision get into play. But I’m here to defend it, so whoever gets sent to me, I’ll be ready for. I don’t know if Weili, but I would definitely fight Tatiana. Maybe she gets one more fish tin I want to have a couple more fights with some grapplers.”
Mackenzie Dern becomes the 4th female from Brazil to win a UFC Ultimate Fighting Championship belt joining Cris Cyborg, Amanda Nunes, and Jessica Andrade as other female Mixed Martial Arts MMA Champions from Brazil. A world Champion in the IBJJF, ADCC, and now UFC Mackenzie Dern joined Heavyweight legend Fabricio Werdum as the only other person to accomplish that.
Who do you want Mackenzie Dern to fight next? Joining Cris Cyborg, BJ Penn, and Michael Bispbing as fighters who have been coached by Jason Parillo on their way to UFC Championship gold Mackenzie Dern is on top of the world as the best female flyweight.
