She was #1 contender after defeating former Olympic Silver medalist Sara McMann at Bellator 300, she was even brought into the cage and faced off against MMA Grand Slam Champion Cris Cyborg–however once the Bellator MMA organization was purchased by Professional Fighters League those plans changed.
McCourt would be forced into taking ‘another #1 contender fight’ and this time it would take place in her home market of London England as the main event to Bellator’s return to the UK. Unfortunately for Leah McCourt the night also saw her lose her #1 contender position before she ever gets the opportunity to fight for the belt after a stunning first round loss to the undefeated Sara Collins.
Collins of Australia dropped Leah McCourt twice in the first round before securing the fight ending RNC submission about halfway through the 5 minutes. Following the victory while still in the cage Sara Collins called for a fight against Bellator MMA Champion Cris Cyborg who is scheduled to fight for the PFL PPV Championship Belt Oct. 19th in Saudi Arabia as the Co Main Event of the PFL PPV Super Fight Series Brace for Impact.
