Fans of Cris Cyborg have called out Kayla Harrison for fighting the scale instead of fighting Cris Cyborg. Kayla who had won 2 gold medals in the Olympics competing in the higher weight divisions made her start in MMA at the 155lbs division and immediately called for a fight against Cris Cyborg after winning back-2-back PFL MMA tournaments.
Securing her Free Agency, Kayla Harrison used Cris Cyborg as leverage against the PFL to negotiate her dream deal with Bellator MMA who at the time was managed by Scott Coker knowing that the PFL MMA would have to meet the demands of her contract or risk losing their home grown talent. Kayla at that point negotiated everything needed to make the Cris Cyborg fight and agreed to the terms.
Fast forward and the PFL acquires Bellator MMA and is able to produce the Cyborg Vs Judo Kayla superfight that Kayla Harrison already negotiated for and has spent years calling out. While Kayla’s contract term ended in December, the promoter offered her the opportunity to make the long awaited fight in February only for Kayla to refuse the offer.
Now 2-0 in the UFC at the Bantamweight division, a very weight drained Kayla Harrison stepped on the scale for the first time at 135lbs which is championship weight for her fight against current champion Juliana Pena. Cris Cyborg’s last fight she defeated Larissa Pacheco who has the only win over Kayla Harrison and put a stop to all of Judo Kayla’s momentum prior to her departure from the PFL.
