Amanda Nunes has brought in the only girl to be Kayla Harrison into her training camp as she has Larissa Pacheco in Florida helping her prepare for her return to the UFC. Kayla who has gone 4-0 since her shocking upset to Larissa Pacheco said she didn’t understand the reasoning of bringing Pacheco noting that she (Kayla) is a southpaw grappler while Larissa Pacheco is an orthodox striker.
Pacheco however might have valuable information when it comes to fighting Judo Kayla as the two have had three total fights against one another. Pacheco lost the first two fights, which both happened within 6 months of each other. She lost the bouts when she was unable to stop Pacheco’s takedown. Two years later however, when they rematched Pacheco showed the skills needed to win the rematch by stopping the blast double leg of Kayla Harrison and landing dominate strikes when in the GNP position.
Pacheco made noticeable adjustments. Kayla is orthodox, however she stands in the Southpaw position because in Judo you put your lead hand forward which. With this Kayla uses her lead hook to close the distance or to reach enter into the clench. Pacheco recognized this and spent a majority of her time circling towards the back leg, and even fought some of her third bout against Kayla in the Southpaw position herself
Cris Cyborg who lost to Amanda Nunes in 2018 was scheduled to fight Kayla Harrison before she left the PFL MMA for the UFC. Cyborg had this to say about the fight, “Amanda Nunes needs to defend the takedown, if she can do that and put Kayla Harrison on her back foot early this will be a good night for Nunes. If Kayla gets a takedown early and finds success on top, it’s going to be difficult for Nunes the longer the fight goes.”
What do you think? who do you think wins UFC 324 taking place in Las Vegas January 24th? Will it be Judo Kayla or Amanda Nunes?
