Claressa Shields continued her quest at 175 pounds with a win over Lani Daniels in a fight that went all 10 rounds, an occurrence that has occurred in 14 of Claressa Shields 17 professional boxing bouts. Despite a noticeable size difference, Claressa Shields was unable to land any fights that had much effect throughout the 20 minute boxing match.
Shields struggled to find the body in the early rounds, and during the mid rounds of the fight spent most of her energy chasing Lani Daniels around the ring due to her inability to cut the ring and force Lani into a fight. Noticing a significant slow down in the later rounds, Lani Daniels started fighting off the lead foot for the first time and was able to pressure Shields into the ropes as the self proclaimed ‘Gwoat’ stood in a square stance against the ropes looking tired but well ahead on points.
Lani Daniels looked significantly smaller fight night, having moved up from the light heavyweight division she found herself in the ring against a much bigger Claressa Shields who appeared to have gained weight following her 175bls weigh in the day before.
While well ahead on the score cards, Shields would go on to lose the 10th round on the judges score cards securing an easy unanimous decision against a clearly overmatched opponent. While impressive, Claressa’s inability to finish fights makes the event a 20 minute intermission for most fans. Following the fight Claressa Shields stayed as far away from mentioning Cris Cyborg’s name as possible. Claressa infamously challenged Cyborg to cross over from MMA into the sport of Boxing==and to move up in weight from 145lbs to 154lbs.
Cyborg who initially tried to get Shields to fight at 147 finally agree to a weight of 154lbs after giving herself a few professional boxing fights and a chance to get use to the new weight in the ring. Undefeated and currently ranked 8th in the world as a professional boxer, Cris Cyborg has more knockouts on her professional boxing record that Claressa Shields despite having 1/4th the experience. Shields instead of facing Cyborg at 154 has ran to the heavyweight division which is notorious for its lack of talent with Shields having to move Lani Daniels up from light Heavyweight to have a challenger as proof.
