Braekhus who faced Cornejo on 1 weeks notice after a change of opponent was needed went on to win a 10 round decision in a crowd pleasing fight with all three judges scoring the bout 96-93 for Braekhus who improved to 38-2-1 with the victory.
Braekhus who is 42 years of age was originally set to fight Ema Kozin of Slovenia in defense of her WBC and WBO belts however she was unable to secure the visa’s required to travel to the USA and fight in Las Vegas. Braekhus became undisputed champion at 147 pounds in 2014 and held all the belts until 2022. Now at the age of 42 Braekhus looks to reign at 154lbs. Could a possible superfight between Cecilia Braekhus and Cris Cyborg finally becoming fans way?
