Cecilia Braekhus took to the ring to face Ema Kozin in what was promoted as her final fight and was taking place in Norway against Ema Kozin for the WBC and WBO Junior Middleweight world titles. Judges scored the fight 97-93, 96-94, and 98-92 giving Braekhus a world championship in her 2nd weight class after becoming the first women to be undisputed in boxing history.
Braekhus who is 44 years of age called the fight her final bout but she certainly looked like she had more to give in the sport. A fast start by Kozin was weathered by Braekhus who got her thing and started finding the body and head of her opponent. Prior to the loss to Braekhus Kozin’s only defeat was Claressa Shields.
Over 3,000 fans came to support the Finnish boxing icon as Braekhus historic career helped life a 33 year ban on pro boxing that lasted until 2014. Brakekhus went on an incredible 12 year unbeaten streak and is in the Guiness Book of World Records for the longest time as world champion in a weight division. Fans have often dreamed of a boxing vs mma crossover fight like they had with Conor mcgregor and Floyd Mayweather. Cris Cyborg and Cecilia Braekhus have teased a fight between the two for many years, do you think we could see the two women combat sports icons in the ring for one final showdown between two legends in their 40’s?
For now Cris Cyborg will return to MMA with a super fight against the #3 ranked Sara Collins December 13th in Lyon France. Cyborg is the only female champion to win World Championships with 5 promotions including the UFC, PFL, Bellator, Invicta, Strikeforce and she is currently undefeated at 7-0 competing in the sport of boxing.
