Former BJJ World Champion Augusto Mendes was suppose to fight next month in New Jersey, however due to a failed USADA test he has now been pulled from the event.
The bantamweight fighter was notified of a failed test dating from a sample that was collected March 7th, as released by the UFC on Tuesday. Mendes will now have a pending investigation into the flagged sample which could result in a suspension or fine as in accordance with the UFC anti-doping policy.
Augusto Mendes was scheduled to fight Merab Dvalishvili at the UFC event taking place in Atlantic City on April 21st but until the USADA investigation is complete he is unable to participate in any UFC competitions. Mendes who is 6-2 overall lost a unanimous decision to Aljamain Sterling last April when he competed on for for UFC on Fox 24. With 2 out of 3 of his fights being a loss, this wasn’t the momentum he needed.
