Boxing was supposed to be back in a big way this weekend when it premiered in the heart of time square in New York, however it was the lack of engagement during the fight card that left most fans unsatisfied. Heading into the night the plan was to showcase Ryan Garcia with the idea of running back a matchup with Devin Haney later this year.
Haney who suffered a KO loss to Ryan Garcia had the result changed into a NC after a banned sbustance was found in Ryan Garcia post fight drug screening. Haney fought a lackluster match earlier in the night winning by decision before Ryan Garcia who was a -1000 favorite went on to lose a 12 round decision.
Romero dropped Garcia in the 2nd round and pressed forward with more action while Garcia seemed uninspired most of the night. Haney fougt a game Jose Ramirez but never put the matchup left many fans disappointed in the lack of engagement. Perhaps the fighter of the night for the Time Square event was Teofimo Lopez who put on a master class against Arnold Barboza Jr, growing his brand with the best fight from Turki Al Sheikh.
Cris Cyborg returns to professional Boxing May 17th as she faces top 20 ranked female fighter Precious Harris McCray over 6 rounds of professional action as the co main event of San Jose Fight Night. Get your tickets to watch Cris Cyborg’s next boxing fight here.
