Saudi Arabia may have found its next mixed martial arts star.
In front of an enthusiastic hometown crowd at Boulevard Studios in Riyadh, Hattan Alsaif made a memorable transition from amateur standout to professional fighter by earning a dominant second-round TKO over Algeria’s Dania Ouhachi in the PFL MENA Showcase Main Event. Hattan Alsaif fought alongside Cris Cyborg when the 18x MMA World Champion defeated Larissa Pacheco at PFL Battle of Giants.
Already one of the Middle East’s fastest-rising names in combat sports, Alsaif entered the contest carrying an undefeated amateur record and significant expectations. Rather than allowing the pressure of competing in front of her home fans to affect her performance, she embraced the moment and produced an impressive finish that further elevated her growing profile.
The opening round featured a brief grappling exchange after Ouhachi threatened with an armbar attempt, but Alsaif quickly regained control of the fight. Once the action returned to the feet, the Saudi striker showcased the power that has made her one of the region’s most exciting prospects.
Early in the second round, Alsaif landed a crushing overhand right that dropped Ouhachi before following up with ground-and-pound strikes, forcing the referee to stop the contest at 3:38 of Round 2.
The victory marks a successful start to Alsaif’s professional MMA career and reinforces the Professional Fighters League’s continued investment in developing talent throughout the Middle East. As Saudi Arabia continues expanding its footprint in global combat sports, performances like Alsaif’s demonstrate that the country is producing athletes capable of becoming legitimate international contenders.
Hazem Kayyali Advances in PFL MENA Welterweight Tournament
The night’s co-main event carried significant tournament implications as Jordan’s Hazem Kayyali squared off against Lebanon’s Hassan Shaaban in a PFL MENA welterweight tournament quarterfinal.
Kayyali controlled much of the contest with effective kicking attacks and disciplined striking, earning a unanimous decision victory to advance into the tournament semifinals. He will now compete in the next stage of the bracket when PFL MENA returns to Riyadh on Oct. 2.
Malik Basahel Keeps Perfect Record Intact
Saudi fans had another reason to celebrate as Jeddah native Malik Basahel improved his unbeaten record to 4-0 with a unanimous decision victory over Morocco’s Imad El-Azami.
Basahel relied on his grappling and positional control throughout the three-round contest, consistently dictating the pace while frustrating his opponent. The judges rewarded his performance with scores that reflected his control of the fight, making him another Saudi prospect to watch moving forward.
Tournament Picture Takes Shape
Several tournament quarterfinals were completed during the event as PFL MENA continued building toward its championship rounds.
In the welterweight division, Abdelkrim Zouad secured a submission victory over Wissame Akhmouch, while Omar Hussein advanced with a second-round TKO over Ahmed Darwish. Morocco’s Badreddine Diani also earned a unanimous decision victory to move into the semifinals alongside Kayyali.
The featherweight bracket also saw movement as Algeria’s Elias Boudegzdame advanced with a first-round triangle choke submission against Hussein Salem. Syria’s undefeated Shadi Kabbani also punched his ticket to the semifinals after defeating Ahmed Tarek by unanimous decision.
PFL MENA Continues Regional Growth
The latest PFL MENA event highlighted the organization’s commitment to building homegrown stars across the Middle East. With athletes representing Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Algeria, Syria and Egypt competing on the same card, the promotion continues to establish itself as one of the region’s premier MMA platforms.
For Saudi Arabia in particular, Hattan Alsaif’s successful professional debut could become one of the defining moments of the evening. The combination of her finishing ability, growing popularity and the support of local fans gives the PFL another marketable athlete as mixed martial arts continues to expand throughout the Kingdom.
If her debut performance is any indication, Alsaif’s professional career is off to an impressive start, and her next appearance will likely be one of the most anticipated bouts on a future PFL MENA card.
