Carlos Ulberg KO’s Jiri Prochazka on one leg to win UFC LHW Championship

In a true come from behind victory Carlos Ulberg appeared to suffer serious damage to his knee moments before landing a spectacular knockout punch to win the UFC Light heavyweight belt as the main event of UFC 327 which took place in Miami Florida with President Trump in attendance. With the victory Carlos Ulberg won his firt UFC Belt, however it appears he suffered significant damage.  Ulberg took an opening in the first round after clearly hurt9ng his knee as Prochazka continued to stalk him moving forward.  Ulberg stepped back and with a perfect counter left hook connected on the spot.

Prochazka fell to the mat and Ulberg followed up with a violent barrage of strikes forcing the ref to stop the fight as Prochazka was left knocked out and Ulberg declared the UFC LHW Champion. “It was my knee. I blew out my knee” Ulberg immediately said after the fight before going on to say “I never ever counted myself out. I knew that all I needed as that one shot and I ended up getting it.” I knew Jiri was hesitant to come forward and as soon as I landed my left hand, he’s going I’ve got to sort his knee out. But We’re Champion.”   It was an incredible performance as the knee was clearly compromised early in the opening round. “That’s what it’s about. It’s about getting those moments. We found that one kill shot. He said he could hunt me but you can’t hunt what you can’t kill.”

The Co Main event saw Paulo Costa move up to lightheavyweight and score a 3rd KO over the previously undefeated Azamat Murzakanov. Curits Blaydes lost a fight of the night decision to Bellator MMA Veteran Josh Hokit. Dominick Reyes won a decision over Johnny Walker while Cub Swanson sent himself into retirement with a highlight reel KO over Nate Landwehr. In the prelims Aaron Pico picked up a decision win over Patricio Pitbull in a flashback to their Bellator MMA rivalry.  Kevin Holland picked up another win as he defeated Randy Brown after 3 rounds by decision. Tatiana Suarez picked up a 2nd round submission against Loopy Godinez, Mateusz Gamrot scored a sbmission over Esteban Ribovics in the 2nd round. Opening fights saw Charles Radtke score a decision over Francisco Prado while Kelvin Gastelum picked up a sumbmission loss to veteran Vicente Luque.

It is believed Carlos Ulberg suffered damage to his knee’s ACL and possibly other ligaments. It is unknown how long he will be out of action as he recovers from the UFC 327 fight night injury. The UFC did not immediately make plans for the Light Heavyweight division if the current champion is out for more than a year due to the injury, but the expectation would be a possible interim title.
